Identifying and Promoting Best Practices Flow Chart

This flow chart depicts the following: To identify a best practice it is necessary to understand two important concepts.

These are:

  • Field Tested Best Practice: A program, activity, strategy that has been shown to work effectively and produce successful outcomes and is supported to some degree by subjective and objective data sources.
  • Research Validated Best Practice: A program, activity or strategy that has the highest degree of proven effectiveness supported by objective and comprehensive research and evaluation.

The progress of identifying and promoting best practices is comprised of four tasks. Task One is identifying best practice needs among FBCOs. Task Two is identifying existing best practices that meet the identified needs. This includes conducting research to identify best practices and ensuring that the criteria and selection process is valid. Task Three is identifying and validating new best practices. This entails finding potential best practices; describing and documenting practices; and validating the practices. The result of task three is the identification of existing and newly validated field-tested best practices that meet the needs of the FBCOs. Task Four is the promotion and fostering of best practices. This is accomplished through peer-to-peer networking and through direct training and technical assistance.
